Since this is post #1 I’ll just take a few sentences to fill you up-to-date (i.e. copy what is in the “about” page… sorry).
Hey! My name is Stephanie and I’m an earth scientist/exploration geologist (BSc) and a keen traveler of the world.
Being an avid Discovery and National Geographic fan (*cough* nerd *cough*) I like to share not only my experience as an exploration geologist looking for gold and other metals, but also my travels around the world, whether for fun or work, and including some less commonly publicized background science about these places.
Along the way hopefully I can create some beautiful photos and, because i’m quite the movie buff, link any associations with these places to the occasional popular sci-fi films… just of the fun of it! Enjoy
More about myself:
I’m from Vancouver, Canada and in my early 20′s. I love adventure, inspiration, and a great story. This is probably what sparked the vast majority of my life choices.
I studied Earth and Ocean Science at university and graduated with a Bachelor of Science with distinctions. Since graduation I have been working as an exploration geologist for mineral exploration and mining companies, looking mostly for copper and gold (…pretty much a professional gold-digger).
I also have worked within the movie industry, and this is fueled by my rather nerdy-love for movies, especially science fiction and fantasy.
More about this blog:
As mentioned above, when I travel and write about it in this blog I want to combine some background science/knowledge to the place, and maybe link it to an famous story or movie that you might have seen (as you can tell, this evidently mirrors my interests…). So even if you know nothing of the place, maybe you can relate to the story/movie part or science, and vis-versa! I may not achieve these on all my post but I’ll try.
In regards to science, I am going to focus more on my expertise which is earth science, specifically geology and geomorphology (how the land was formed, rocks, etc.) but of course not limited to it. I’ll have a go at diving into some other topics I like such as astronomy, (particle) physics, ecology, etc.
I’m also going to try my best to highlight some photograph of the regions I have taken as well, but due to various side-track topics in the posts I will occasional use pictures that I didn’t take so i’ll try to give credit to the source when possible.
I’ll try and post a new entry every 2 weeks so please subscribe to my blog (just enter your email over to the right in the side-bar) to be messaged when it happens!
Feel free to contact/leave me any feedback, I would love to hear back from you!
Ok, there you go, Post 1 = complete
